Kundalini Awakening

My personal journey with kundalini awakening & signs that one is happening to you

If you have ever googled and read about kundalini awakenings online, you may have been left with many questions and probably some anxiety around kundalini OR maybe you felt excited and eager to have one for yourself. Either way, kundalini has become a relatively hot topic with polarizing opinions around it. First and foremost: kundalini energy is our divine shakti energy, it's known by all types of names such as creative energy, life force energy, divine feminine, and serpentine energy. Kundalini lays coiled at the base of our spines which is why it is often referred to as serpentine or snake-like. When kundalini rises, transformations of mind, body and soul can occur.

Many of the stories and experiences you read about are referring to spontaneous kundalini awakenings, which although they are possible, it is rare. It is more likely that someone’s kundalini is dormant, awakening slowly via activation methods or it has awakened and risen but only to one or two chakras but is not entirely open.

Let me start with how it happened to me…

In 2020, I attended a virtual meditation class  taught by a renowned Shaman. During the meditation he spoke in different languages I didn’t understand (light language I now know) and from my cross-legged position, my upper body began to swirl in circles. I felt a total body feeling of bliss come over me as I was chanting along with the group. I happened to have been filming myself for social media content and I remember screen-shotting an image of me in a state of total bliss. Later on I looked up why that might have happened and I learned it was the kundalini energy at the base of my spine, but I left it at that. However, following that experience I would often find myself swaying or swirling during meditation or breathwork, unable to sit still. That is one of the things about kundalini, once it is awakened it does not go back to sleep.

Blissed out in 2020

Cut to 2022/2023, around when I became pregnant with my daughter. I would do deep meditations and afterwards I would intuitively write on a piece of paper. I kept writing the words kundalini and shakti. I kept having visions of white snakes. Unsure of what exactly this meant, I began to take a course studying Kundalini Yoga. Although much of the practices resonated with me, I felt like something was missing. Kundalini yoga has a certain way and order of doing things and I am not really a follow-a-protocol kind of person. I always say that when I wrote my cookbook it was because I cannot follow a recipe, I always have to take something and make it my own. One night when I was up feeding my then newborn baby and scrolling through social media, I came across a video of someone who was being worked on by a facilitator and looked like they were having an exorcism. I could tell that the person was having an extreme response and release. It scared and invigorated me at the same time. I learned that this was a kundalini activation and I knew I was meant to do it in some way. I began to seek out teachers and receive activations and it felt more aligned than anything else I had ever done (and I have done A LOT). With each activation I noticed more expression of the energy.  At first I just felt subtle movements of my hips and legs that then turned into full body shaking. Following that my sessions began to bring out mudras with my hands, light language and codes (I talked about this last week!), channeling messages and clarity. I also noticed that I felt energized and alive which was quite the feat for a brand new mom. It was during a session that I learned I was meant to do this work of awakening others. I did not choose it, it chose me.

Everyone’s expression of kundalini awakening because kundalini energy lives within each of us. Your energy might be sensual or cosmic, it might be powerful or regal, it could be subtle and peaceful. With that being said here are some signs that of kundalini awakening.

  1. Temperature changes - during a session clients often feel a change in temperature, this is an early sign of the kundalini rising

  1. Tingling, twitching, vibrations and muscle “jumps” - another early sign is these small movements or feelings in the body that you may notice or sometimes even miss if you are so deep in meditation during your session

  1. Yawning, Coughing, Sighing - involuntary actions such as a yawn, cough or sigh is another way that energy releases from the body. I often ask clients to cough to get something out of the throat chakra or heart chakra if I notice there is something trying to release.

  1. Swaying, shaking, Moving the arms, legs or head - The more you do kundalini activations or the more opened you are, the more movement you will experience. This is especially true when your body is releasing something. For example if you are moving something out of the chest you may find your chest rising or cllearing the root chakra may cause your legs to shake or your hips to sway, etc.

  1. Sound, laughing, crying, screaming - many people release stored emotions which can come out of the body via laughter, crying, sounds or screaming

  1. Mudras, Yoga poses - more advanced expressions can look like the hands forming mudras involuntarily and moving the body into yoga poses

  1. Intense Emotions - you may feel emotions more intensely following an awakening, or you may feel anxious from adrenaline coursing through your body. I always tell people to ground and focus on their nervous systems to calm this down

  1. Seeing colors, mandalas, and visions - many people receive messages, visions and clarity during awakening sessions

  1. Life changes - you may notice that after your kundalini awakens you feel different in your life, as you raise your vibration you no longer are a match for lower vibrational things which can range from relationships to the food you consume. You may feel connected to your purpose, inspired or a new sense of creativity

  1. Physical changes - kundalini awakening has been said to change the way someone physically appears although this is not always the case ( I don’t want to give anyone false hope that they will get a kundalini makeover). Sometimes following an awakening people have less desire to eat OR want to eat like crazy but this feeling does not last for long.

As I said above, everyone has a different experience and I am sure I missed some but these are the main ones that I have experienced or seen from clients. If you would like to try for yourself you can visit my Nebula Soul Method website to work with me!
